How to Navigate Performance Management

How to Navigate Performance Management

Happy New Year to you! As you ended 2022, you probably had to evaluate and reflect on your business from the past year. You read through the numbers and closed out your books, but did you think about your employees and how they performed from January to December? Did some take on more responsibilities? Did others fall back and do the bare minimum?

As we start 2023, take some time to check in with your employees, review their roles, and see what their goals are in the upcoming months. These conversations can naturally navigate their performance and your expectations. Regardless of whether you’d like them to step up and do more, or you think they’re overachieving and deserve recognition, we put together a quick read on the 4 Steps to Navigating Performance Management.

COMPLIANCE UPDATES

Reminder: Annual OSHA Reporting

On January 5, we sent out an email regarding annual OSHA reporting. Please note that if your company is required to comply with the OSHA record-keeping guidelines, PrestigePEO will provide a separate email with detailed instructions and forms. If you don’t receive another email regarding OSHA from PrestigePEO, your company is exempt from filing.

OSHA record-keeping is required for employers with 11 or more employees at any time during the prior calendar year. If you are an employer with 20-249 employees (in certain industries), or an employer with 250 employees or more in ANY industry, you are required to annually file the OSHA 300a electronically. If you have any questions, please contact our Workers’ Compensation Manager, Pete Hilbert, by email at philbert@prestigepeo.com or by phone at (917) 789-5036.

Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) Update

Have you claimed your Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) yet? Qualified employers can still claim this credit retroactively for 2020 and 2021. Congress introduced ERTC as a pandemic-era relief measure for small businesses experiencing economic impact. Qualifying employers may claim a refundable tax credit of 70% on up to $10,000 of wages paid per employee per quarter for Q1, Q2, and Q3 of 2021. Qualifying employers may also claim a refundable tax credit of 50% on up to $10,000 of wages paid per employee in 2020. Click the link below for a complete rundown of the ERTC and as always, contact your Payroll Specialist if you have any questions.

FMLA Intermittent Leave

FMLA does not need to be taken all at once, and when deemed medically necessary, employees may take FMLA intermittently. This leave can be taken in separate blocks of time for a single qualifying reason or on a reduced leave schedule. When leave is needed for planned medical treatment, the employee must make a reasonable effort to schedule treatment so as not to unduly disrupt the employer’s operation. Leave to care for or bond with a newborn child or for a newly placed adopted or foster child may only be taken intermittently with the employer’s approval and must conclude within 12 months after the birth or placement. If you or any of your employees have further questions about FMLA intermittent leave, please contact your HRBP and encourage your employees to do the same.

You can contact your dedicated team of specialists by phone, email, your PrestigePRO dashboard, and our convenient PrestigeGO mobile app.

Compliance Posters Are Now Digitally Available

PrestigePEO wants to ensure that all employees have access to view federal and state compliance posters. Compliance posters, or labor law postings, are traditionally posted in a public forum inside of your office, often in a break area that all employees have access to. These posters include information such as the whistleblower protection law, minimum wage notices, and other items like FMLA and FLSA.

These are reviewed, updated, and available for all employees, regardless of whether they are telecommuting or if they’re in the office, at any time via the PrestigePRO employee portal.

You can access these posters by following the instructions below:

  • Log into the PrestigePRO employee portal.
  • Scroll down on the left-hand sidebar and click on “Federal/State Posting Notices”.
  • This will bring you to a new page titled “Employee Poster Viewing Center”.
  • Click on the dropdown box beneath this heading and select the state from which you physically work.
  • Once you select your state, you’ll see the following options:
    • State
    • Federal
    • Local (if applicable)
  • Click through your options to review each notice and download the files if you wish to keep them as references.

All newly hired employees will receive an email notification when they start regarding compliance posters with directions on how to access them in their PrestigePRO employee portal as well. A copy of what your newly hired employees will receive is here.

For questions about these notices or any general inquiries, please contact your HR Business Partner.

The Importance of Psychological Safety in the Workplace

Employees cannot grow and thrive in a work environment that stifles them. If employees feel that it is not safe to ask questions and offer their ideas without ridicule, then you may have a culture that is not psychologically safe. Psychological safety, or the lack of it, can greatly impact the workplace, which is why this is an important concept to understand. If you have a culture that does not support questions and admitting mistakes, you may have inadvertently fostered a toxic environment. Check out this episode for useful information on psychological safety and what you can do to ensure your workplace is welcoming for
